A Rainbow of Apples
I haven't tried every apple, but I have tried a few. My work at the Edible Biodiversity Conservation Area had me taste-testing thousands of fruits this autumn, including hundreds of heirloom apples. I can genuinely say I am all fed up on apples.
There were so many wonderful flavours. Some of my favourites for taste, although I will admit I lean a bit tart in my preferences, include Ginger Gold, Holstein, and Newton's Pippin.
It was a rainbow of apples hanging from the trees in the food forest. As I passed under the boughs, the fruit offered itself for taste-testing.
But some are still green yet, and I must return to sample them before the hard frosts. I hope I will get a great taste of the Black Oxford. It was very beautiful this season, with nary a sign of disease or pests.
What a miracle is biodiversity.
