Edible Ecosystem Design?

When you walk in the forest, you are in an ecosystem because it has living entities: trees, moss, fungi, and you as well. These are interacting with each other and with the environment: the wind, sun, soil, and water. This is an ecological system called a forest. A prairie is also an ecosystem, and so too is a wetland.
But the scale of ecosystem design I write about in The Edible Ecosystem Solution is the 25-square-foot module that can be patterned along your yard beside a sidewalk to create an edible hedge, or along a city park fence line, or even across an entire farm field as organized intercropping.
So what is an edible ecosystem?
An ecosystem that grows food. This could be a food forest, a tea meadow, or a nut woodland. Yum.
